How do I know if Functional Medicine is right for me?

Reasons why you might choose Functional Medicine include:

  • You have symptoms and have seen your doctor but they still have no diagnosis or explanation
  • You are looking to prevent a certain disease based on family history and/or genetics
  • You want to get to the root cause of your disease or condition, instead of simply treating the symptoms

How long do the results last?

The immediate skin improvements will last for several days and can be maintained by using the appropriate skincare recommended by your aesthetician. Regular monthly visits will ensure that the health and appearance of your skin continues to improve and stay maintained.

How often will I need appointments?

Your first appointment will last approximately 90 minutes. Follow up appointments of 45-60 minutes will be required at intervals of between one and three months to see how you are doing and if any modifications to the plan are required. After three appointments you may only need a maintenance check up every 6-12 months (depending on the outcome of your therapy).

What happens during a Functional Nutrition appointment?

Following a comprehensive systems questionnaire and food diary prior to your appointment, you will be offered an initial consultation during which our nutritional therapist will carry out a detailed analysis. From the information supplied and discussed she will devise a plan that will consist of dietary and nutritional requirements to improve and optimise your health status. This plan will also include lifestyle modifications. She may also recommend supplementation sourced from the highest quality supplement producers in order to support optimal health.

Is a HydraFacial suitable for acne?

Yes, HydraFacial Acne Protocol involves the same exfoliating and deep cleansing steps with an additional GlySal Peel and Blue LED Light Therapy. This treatment will help to improve the appearance of acne and acne scarring and regulate oil levels caused by excess sebum. The strength of the peel step will be tailored to your Acne related needs.

How does a HydraFacial feel?

The most important factor of the HydraFacial is that it doesn’t hurt. While there is a deep cleansing, exfoliation and peeling process, none of these treatment steps cause any pain whatsoever to skin. Many people describe the process as feeling like a tiny vacuum is tugging gently on your skin. Nothing is being pulled hard, poked or irritated. HydraFacials are completely non-invasive, so there is no skin-puncturing.

Can a HydraFacial be combined with other treatments?

At Cavendish Clinic, we combine HydraFacial with many other aesthetic treatments. Our most popular option is HydraTite – This treatment combines the HydraFacial with Exilis Elite radio-frequency to tighten the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin production. A very relaxing treatment with no down-time which delivers amazing, immediate results that continue to improve for months after the completion of treatments.

Another option is HydraFacial x Fire & Ice – This treatment combines hydraFacial with carefully-selected iS Clinical products to optimise results, the treatment has been hailed by professionals and celebrities alike for its wealth of benefits and zero downtime.

Are there any side effects?

HydraFacial is a non-invasive procedure using hydradermabrasion and it is well tolerated by most people. If redness appears post treatment it usually doesn’t last long. Allergic reactions are very rare and you should always consult your aesthetician for further advice.

What aftercare is needed for a HydraFacial?

As HydraFacial has no downtime no special aftercare is required. We do however recommend a daily application of sun protection alongside appropriate skincare advised by your aesthetician. Delaying using stronger topical creams (Vit A and AHAs) for 2 days after your treatment is also recommended. You aesthetician will cover all of this with you prior to commencing treatment.

How long is my appointment?

Unlike a visit to your GP surgery, due to the in-depth and thorough nature of functional medicine, your practitioner will spend around 1 hour with you during the initial consultation and between 30-45 minutes for your follow up appointments. Follow-ups are scheduled to ensure that you are seeing positive changes in your health issues. Many practitioners also make themselves available via email to further address questions should they arise.
